Personal Comments:

This card reminds me of the fun-loving, emotionally happy, and somewhat dense Dory from Finding Nemo. She was in love with life, and attempted to bring joy where it was lacking most. She was fearless… and could speak whale. That right there brings happiness and laughter to my own heart.

The ace of cups is the beginning of strong emotions. It’s that feeling when you are first in love; that feeling when your child does something amazing; that feeling when you have your first baby. There are so many moments of immense joy in life, and this card captures that all. Reverse, you don’t have that joy. It’s lacking; it’s blocked. Allow yourself to experience happiness in everything you do.

*I spoke about the Ace of Cups in a previous post titled “Experiencing┬áthe Ace of Cups“.

Description

(Based on the Rider Waite Tarot)
20080507004359!Cups01

This card shows a hand coming out of a cloud. Of the four aces, this is one of the two with the palm facing up. The chalice in the hand is yellow (perhaps gold?). Water flows up and out of the cup. There is a dove dropping a wafer down into the cup (communion). Water falls out beside the cup and hand down to the pond. The pond contains water lilies; the background is a murky gray (like the cloud), and far off there are green hills.

Waite’s description:

The waters are beneath, and thereon are water-lilies; the hand issues from the cloud, holding in its palm the cup, from which four streams are pouring; a dove, bearing in its bill a cross-marked Host, descends to place the Wafer in the Cup; the dew of water is falling on all sides. It is an intimation of that which may lie behind the Lesser Arcana. Divinatory Meanings: House of the true heart, joy, content, abode, nourishment, abundance, fertility; Holy Table, felicity hereof. Reversed: House of the false heart, mutation, instability, revolution.
